A Missed Opportunity
|
Apologies if mentioned elsewhere.
Having just received the "new stadium update" from the club, for me, it highlights again a missed opportunity for the club to put right something which has bothered a lot of fans for years. To not have a stand named after Billy Bonds is poor and the new beginning gave them a chance to put this right. The shame is that Trevor & Bill are great mates and they would have been delighted to have had a stand named after the pair of them.

The Bond's Brooking stand sounds nice.
Bond's gets priority as he was Captain.

If he'd just change his surname to Westfield it would be ideal.

The club doesn't honour any fans hero unless they can screw the players name for money. Example Bobby Moore. And these owners are the worst for it.

I'd approach Betway and say we would like to change the stand with your name on it to the Billy Bonds Stand. Betway agree and make a big announcement and West Ham fans think Betway are great. We present this to them as a great promotional opportunity and don't use the word BLACKMAIL at all.

I suppose their answer would be, that they've represented our famous names with the shirts hanging from the stadium around the entrances.

Its not called the Betway stand. West Ham do not have the right to name either the east or west stand. I'd imagine that the LLDC will crack down on that.

I'm sure on one of my tickets for next weeks games there is a little stadium map that refers to the Betway Stand. While we are making up names for things not within our REMIT perhaps we should name it the Queen Karren Olympic Park.

Sven. You're right. The west stand is called the betway stand on my nice tickets AND the cardboard wallet thing they come in.

I only looked at it as was trying to work out how to approach my seat on Thursday. At first I thought they might have left the Upton Park map on there by mistake.

Yes a chance to put a wrong right. Perhaps one day our Sir Billy will be acknowledged and have a suitable stand or area that would be fitting.

How about naming the system we allocate tickets to fans after him. We could name it The Bonds Scheme.

Hairy Hammer - When did Bonds get an apostrophe introduced between the d and s in his name then. Is that to make him sound more cosmopolitan???
